Gerald R. Swearingen
Gerald R. Swearingen, age 86, resident at Callahan Village, died peacefully Saturday, October 14, 2017, while in his room reading his newspaper. Jerry was born to Alva and Violet Swearingen of Mapleton, Oregon, on July 9, 1931.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Violet; brother, Elwyn; sisters, Wanda and Vera; son, Thomas; and wives, Betty, Sandra, and Patricia. He is survived by son, Michael and wife, Patty; daughter, Loretta (Elliott) and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Nicholas Orr, Ashley and Andrew Swearingen; three great-grandchildren; five step-children; 21 nieces and nephews; and two first cousins, Irma and Verl.
Jerrys love for life was evident to ones that knew him. He loved Family and Country. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He provided a good life for his family while working for Woolley Logging and then Ray Benzel. He attended his kids sporting events and school functions.
What you remember most about Jerry was his smile, the twinkle in his eye, and one of his many jokes or stories. He loved making people laugh, helping others, his Schnauzers, family reunions, fishing, hunting, also camping. Also, he enjoyed growing roses, drinking root beer floats, dancing, country and western music and movies, playing cards, watching the Mariners, and reading his daily newspaper.
Jerrys love of travel took him to many beautiful places across the U.S., Canada, and many trips to the Coast.
A funeral service will be held November 11, 2017, at1 p.m. at the Drain Church of Christ on 2nd Street in Drain, OR.
