In Loving Memory of
Elizabeth Emma Fugate,98, of Oakland Oregon,
Passed Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at her home with family present.
Mrs. Fugate was born Monday, April 29, 1918, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Charles and Rose Deirks.
Elisabeth married Herman Fugate on November 14, 1936, In Marinette, Wisconsin.
When her husband was stuck by polio, Elizabeth, as she preferred to be called, nursed him through it while taking care of the children and the family home. Then in the summer of 1944 the family moved from Marinette, Wisconsin to Oakland, Oregon, where they started their own logging company, Fugate Logging. For her part in helping with the business, Elizabeth was responsible for keeping the books and doing payroll at a small desk in the dining room of the family home.
Elizabeth was a long-standing member of the Eastern Stars and held many of the various office with the organization. When her children were attending school, she joined the PTA
In later years, Elizabeth could be found during the week down at the Lamp Lighter café having coffee with friends.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons Bernard J Fugate, wife Dawn of Canyonville OR,
Daniel H Fugate, and wife Nancy of Roseburg OR, John R Fugate and wife Barbara of Bandon OR,
14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman F Fugate, son William A Fugate, daughter Bernice E (Fugate) Lee, and grandsons Dennis Fugate and Terry Fugate.
