Our mother Garnet June Kilgore Taylor Spear died January 5, 2019 at the age of 85. In her passing she has left us all pondering our relationship with unconditional love. June always had a smile on her face for everyone she encountered. She loved everyone and everything even when times were difficult. She could be flat on her back and elated to see you. She was the glue that held together her family of eleven.
With such a large family June worked from home as a seamstress. Singing while she worked. A favorite song was “The Rose” modified to love builds a bridge. Her strong soprano voice would carry over any choir. Many of the songs she sang she would change the lyrics to reflect her spirituality.
For many years she facilitated a church called Spiritual Inquiry. June read broadly and deeply on spiritual topics. Later in life she compiled much of her knowledge into books that discussed how her spiritual growth helped her through many hardships. Many of her prose (stories) and poetry are published. One would think a person with such a loving nature would have a serene life, but that was not the case for June.
She lived her life on the margins of the economy always considering others before herself. She is survived by 11 living children, 34 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren. And nieces that she took under her wings! And there are an innumerable number of people who have been influenced by her loving spirit.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday January 19, 2019 at 11:00 at Sutherlin Funeral Alternatives 1000 W. Central Ave.
